Daniel Schmitz, MD, is the head physician of the Department of Gastroenterology and Interventional Endoscopy at University Campus of Hamburg Medical School in Schwerin, Germany. He has published several original articles and systematic reviews on percutaneous biliary interventions as on other issues of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy. He has received his medical education at University Hospital in Mainz, Germany, where he completed his doctoral thesis with the title “Systematic epitope characterization and quantitative analysis of cytotoxic T cells in the course of chronic hepatitis C" (Prof. Meyer zu Büschenfelde). He is member of the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS), European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE), American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) and is working as trainer in endoscopic ultrasound as well as teacher at the Medical School of Hamburg.
