Dr. Yutaka Tokairin M.D., Ph.D. graduated from Yamanashi Medical University in 1996. He graduated from the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Tokyo Medical and Dental University in 2006. He is currently working as a medical director of surgery in Toshima Hospital Tokyo Metropolitan Health and Hospitals Corporation.

Dr. Tokairin specializes in mediastinoscopic esophagectomy for esophageal cancer. He developed the method of mediastinoscopic esophagectomy using pneumomediastinum. In addition, he demonstrated the histological features of the thin membranous structure made of dense connective tissue around the esophagus.

Dr. Tokairin is a member of the international editorial board in Esophageal Surgery, and has performed many peer reviews. He has contributed to scientific journals and congresses and received many best presentation awards, including a Paper Award at the 11th Asia Pacific Congress of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgery (ELSA2011) and an award for esophageal surgery from the Japanese Bronchoesophagological Society in 2016.
